Project Comment Options

In addition to rating an item using the assigned scale, you may allow a Respondent to provide a written response after each scaled response. For these to appear, the number of Comment-Prompts must be set and the prompts defined. The default setting is 0.

“Scaled with comment(s)” Items provide the ability to collect written responses to a defined set of repetitive questions along with Scaled responses for that Item.
Along with defining Items as “Scaled with Comments”, the Comments must also be turned-on and defined.

“Structured Comments” Items display a field for a Comment only, without displaying the Scale.
It is provided for uncommon Reporting needs, and usage of it is rare.
We highly recommend using “Open-Ended” Items instead of “Structured Comments”.

Once Comments have been turned on, customizing an Item to include Comments will cause Comment-Prompts and space for a written response below the Item’s Scale in the survey.
For each Item, you may also specify which of the up to 3 Comments-Questions you want displayed and each Item may be customized to display any combinations of the Comment-Prompts.

To turn on and define Comments:

1. From Step 4 of the Project, click Edit project comment options (0).

Projects

2. The “Customize structured comments” wizard appears.

Projects

3. Click Next.

Projects

4. Choose the number of Comments-Prompts you would like to include along with the Scaled data.

5. Click Next.

Projects

6. At the “Enter text for the one comment prompt” box, type the Comment-Prompt that you would like to appear below the Scale.

7. At the “Enter sub-text for the prompt” box.

  • This line is optional and appears below the Comment-Prompt.
  • You may use it to provide addition explanation about the Commend-Prompt or provide additional instructions.

8. Click Next.

9. Click Done.

NOTE: By default, Comment options will appear after each Item in the survey.
You may deactivate Comments for specific a Item by double-clicking that item and:

  • Change its type to “Scaled (numeric) input only” OR
  • You may also specify which of the Comments-Prompts are hidden by unchecking its box under “Include which structured comments?”
